Whether you find yourself planning your dream wedding in Lake Como or you are a special invitee traveling to the ceremony, it is worth taking the time to explore this fantasy location. There is much to see in and around Lake Como - wonderous snowcapped mountain ranges spanning the length of the endless lake, as well as a multitude of history scattered about the region. Nature, cuisine and antiquity meld together here to create one of the most magical and sought-after locations in Italy.
Cuisine
Cooking Classes: Italy is one of the countries most noted for its gastronomy. It would be malarkey to travel to the land of pizza and pasta and not participate in a hands-on cooking class. “Il Caminetto” is one of the top restaurants in Lake Como to offer a one of a kind class. In the province of Lecco, “Il Caminetto”, will take you through the journey of creating traditional Italian Cuisine, wielding only your hands and a rolling pin as tools. Moreno, the restaurants chef, will pave the way and teach you to make fresh pasta as well as other customary dishes. After enjoying your cooking, transport is offered back to Varenna for those who necessitate it.
Wine Tasting: Need I say more? Our top pick is Azienda Agricola Sorsasso, a family winery in the town of Domaso. Only 40 minutes from Varenna. An agriculturist’s dream, making not only wine and spirits, but extra virgin olive oil. The winery aims to produce wine that is characterized by the soil and area from which it grows. The visit includes a tour of the wine cellar followed by an extravagant wine tasting. You will savor local specialties as well as learn about viticulture in the northern most region of Italy. We can organize the car taxi that can take you there and back. A wonderful way to spend a day in Lake Como!
History
Villa Monastero: A property in the province of Lecco, Villa Monastero is one of the most interesting attractions in the region. Dubbed “Casa Museo” or “House Museum, this Villa still shelters the immense decor and historical pieces of its past owners. In the 18th century, Italian and foreign prominent personalities of the cultural and artistic scene frequented the Villa. Now, it is used for weddings, conferences and exhibitions.
Cipressi Gardens: The Botanical Garden takes part of Villa Cipressi. The gardens are open to non-guests and showcase indigenous plants that make up its history. Its design and magical perfumes make it a must see on your Lake Como adventure.
Castello Di Vezio: If you are feeling especially adventurous, you can take a leisurely or not so leisurely hike up to Castello Di Vezio, a 12thcentury castle located nearby Perledo and Varenna. The site is inaccessible by car, so you must walk through the nearby town to reach it. This offers the perfect opportunity to channel your inner explorer and discover old churches, and fragments of history strewn about the town. In addition, once reached the castle you can explore its own history of warfare, as well as an exhibition from the local falconer.
Nature
FiumeLatte: Translated milkywater, Fiumelatte is one of the shortest water courses in Italy- measuring only about 250 meters until it joins with the lake. Because of its short-lived path the water foams up easily amongst its rock bed, giving it its milk-like appearance and thus its name. Its waters are seasonal, beginning about March and ending in October, giving you the perfect season to picnic by the river and enjoy the surrounding nature.
Lake Como Boat Rides: One of the most popular attractions in Lake Como is boat excursions on the lake. It is only fitting for this to be such a sought-out activity, considering Lake Como is the name of the game. You may opt for either a private or taxi boat ride- both showcasing breathtaking views of the surrounding area, as well as the incredulous villas dotting the coast. Of course, the lake is scattered with various boat companies, but we recommend Varenna Water Taxi with Luca. You can enjoy Prosecco or even a private aperitif as you cruise around the calm green waters of Como.
La Passeggiata Degli Innamorati: The Lovers Walk is a short pedestrian path leading into the town of Varenna. A walkway built over water to give strollers the opportunity to admire the views of the lake and its mountains. This path is the perfect place to marvel nature and take in all that Lake Como has to offer. In addition, you can finish off your stroll with a romantic dinner, dessert or both in one of Varenna’s many cafes or restaurants.
There is much to do and see during your stay in Lake Como! It is definitely the best spot to do a Destination Wedding. A romantic and unique scenery and a fun/ unique holiday for all the guests!
Hopefully we will all be able to travel again and once we do I strongly reccomand to come visit Lake Como ... who knows you might love it so much that you will decide to marry here or re new your vows :) and of - course when you do we will be here to make yours dreams come true!
